Comedy, festivals, and food are on tap in Springfield for Labor Day weekend.

Improv Comedy

Watch live improv comedy Friday at the Hoogland Center for the Arts.

The show, featuring the cast of The Portuguese Rodeo Clown Company, will run from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m Friday and Saturday in the Club Room.

In celebration of the cast's 10th anniversary, five actors will take the stage and perform comedy based on audience suggestions. The show will feature comedians Mark C. Holden, Johnny Molson, Patrick Russell, Mary Kate Smith and Mary Young.

Springfield Oyster and Beer Festival

Take your taste buds out for a good time at the Springfield Oyster and Beer Festival on Saturday.

The event will be held from noon until 5 p.m at the Inn at 835, 835 S. Second St.

Musical performances, food trucks with gourmet oyster dishes and more than 50 Midwest and national brands of craft beer will be represented at the festival. Admission includes a festival tasting glass, brewers guide and snack at the gate.

Preordered tickets are $25-35 or $40 at the gate. VIP tickets are $75.

Healing Arts Festival

Head to the Healing Arts Festival for a taste of the vegan world on Saturday.

The free event will take place from 1 to 10 p.m. at the Buzz Bomb Brewing Company, 406 E. Adams St.

Live performances by Jason McElroy, Tebe Zalango and other artists will be included. There also will be variety of vegan food vendors.

Kapital Sound

Kapital Sound will perform live Saturday at Crow Mills Pub, 1220 Toronto Road.

The show will run from 6:30 until 10:30 p.m.

All ages are invited and food and drinks will be available for purchase. Admission is free.

Sunday Brunch

Take the family to an all you can eat brunch Sunday at the Danenberger Family Vineyards, 12341 Irish Road, New Berlin.

The brunch, including breakfast, lunch and dessert items, will begin at 11 a.m.

Families are encouraged to eat and stay for the performance of local band Suns of Circumstance and other artists from 3 to 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for kids.

'The Baltimore Plot'

"The Baltimore Plot," an original play, is set this weekend at the Peggy Ryder Theatre at the Hoogland Center for the Arts.

The play is a story based on real characters and events surrounding an attempt to assassinate Abraham Lincoln before his first inauguration.
