The C. Freeman Poole Senior Center, 4025 South Hurt Road in Smyrna, will have a DIY Basket Class with Commissioner Monqiue Sheffield on May 12 from 10 a.m. to noon.

Participants can learn how to piece together a bright and festive springtime basket just in time for Mother's Day. Supplies are included. Free, but registration is required.

May Celebration of You

The Senior Wellness Center, 1150 Powder Springs Street in Marietta, will have May Celebration of You on May 12 from 10 a.m. to noon.

Participants can update their spring wardrobe with inexpensive fashion tips and learn healthy self-care practices to refocus on themselves. An Italian lunch and dessert will be served. This is a fundraiser for the center. Cost is $18. Registration is required.

The Tim D. Lee Senior Center, 3332 Sandy Plains Road in Marietta, will have Holistic Health with FiFi on May 15 from 10 to 11 a.m.

Fifi is a registered nurse who has 30 years experience. She believes in holistic nursing where the emphasis is not just on the physical aspect, but in all dimensions of wellness: biological, psychological and spiritual. Her classes will be centered on how to gain an optimal state of wellness. The focus will be on meditation. Free, but registration is required.

Friends of Senior Wellness Center will hold their monthly bingo. Fee includes cards, markers and snacks. This is a fundraiser to benefit the center. Registration is required.

Better Balance and Fall Prevention

Sunset Frog Walk is May 18

Cobb County Water System will have a walk on May 18 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. along the pond trails of Lost Mountain Park, 4845 Dallas Highway in Powder Springs.

While walking, participants can practice identifying frogs by their calls. The group will also record and report the species that they hear along the way. The event is free and open to all ages. Minors must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

The West Cobb Regional Library, 1750 Dennis Kemp Lane in Kennesaw, will have Early Virginia 1607-1650: First Contact Between Cultures on May 19 from noon to 1 p.m.

Discover the early history of Jamestown and the Virginia Native Americans and the stories of Capt. John Smith, Pocahantas and Chief Powhatan from a realistic perspective by retired Library Specialist James Camp.

Community Dementia Care Conference and Luncheon is June 1

The Alzheimer's and Dementia Foundation presents Educating Our Community Dementia Care Conference and Luncheon on June 1 at 11 a.m. at the Switzer Library, 266 Roswell Street in Marietta.

The conference will deliver information about Alzheimer's disease, caregiving and legal rights. ADF will provide a free educational conference to the community where participants can learn from local experts and ask questions about topics such as: healthcare, caregiving, elder law, advance planning and the latest developments in Alzheimer's research. Care partners, individuals living with a dementia-related illness, professionals and anyone wishing to learn more about Alzheimer's disease are invited to learn, make connections and hear impactful stories by participating in the conferences.

Pro Wakeboard Tour 2023

The Pro Wakeboard Tour is returning to Acworth this summer.

The Pro Wake Tour is the world's most dominant, highest-credibility professional wakeboard circuit. Comprised of four cash prize events, the PWT showcases the top athletes from Europe, Australia, Canada and the U.S. The event will be June 9-10 at Dallas Landing Park.

Acworth City Clean Up Challenge

The Acworth Public Safety Cadets — Unit 4440 will have a City Clean Up Challenge on June 10 with Acworth Power and Public Works.

This will be the 2nd Quarter Clean up. Each Quarter the Public Safety Cadets partner with Acworth Power and Public Works to keep the City clean and stormwater drains clear of debris.

Concert on the Green: A Juneteenth Celebration

Concert on the Green: A Juneteenth Celebration will take place at Logan Farm Park on June 17.

The event opens at 5 p.m. with performances and live music taking place before the Total Package Band takes the stage from 7 to 9 p.m. This concert is a celebration in observance of June 19, 1865, when the last African American slaves held in Confederate states were finally freed by the Union army. The City of Acworth invites the community to bring blankets and folding chairs to join this celebration of freedom and respect for all cultures. July 4th Concert and Fireworks in Acworth

The City of Acworth and the Acworth Business Association will present one of the largest fireworks extravaganzas in metro Atlanta.

Each year on July 4th, live music and fireworks take place at Cauble Park. Live music will start at 5:30 p.m. Fireworks will begin at approximately 9:30 p.m., subject to change depending on weather. Participants without a parking pass, or if the parking is full, will need to park downtown and walk down to the park. Shuttles will not be running for this event. Handicap parking will be available at McCall Primary School and there will be a shuttle provided for those attendees. Handicap shuttles begin at noon.

City of Acworth's Senior Luncheon

Every third Wednesday of the month will be the City of Acworth's Senior Luncheon at the Acworth Community Center, 4361 Cherokee Street in Acworth.

Seniors can come for lunch and Bingo. This program is free to all seniors, but participants must RSVP to attend. Reservations will be accepted the week prior to the event.
