Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre to have Madama Butterfly

The Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, 2800 Cobb Galleria Parkway in the Cumberland area, will have Madama Butterfly from Nov. 5-13.

Cultures collide when an American naval officer stationed in Nagasaki decides to take a Japanese wife. The opera is sung in Italian with English supertitles. It is presented in partnership with The Japan American Society of Goregia.

27th Annual Bob Busse Memorial Golf Classic is Nov. 7

The 27th Annual Bob Busse Memorial Golf Classic will be Nov. 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Atlanta Country Club, 500 Atlanta Country Club Drive in Marietta.

The event supports Special Olympics Georgia athletes. The goal this year is to raise $130,000 that will go straight to helping Special Olympics Georgia's 17,000 athletes. A silent auction will also be taking place during the event.

Mt. Zion UMW Holly Jolly Craft Show is Nov. 11-12

Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 1770 Johnson Ferry Road in Marietta, will have their Holly Jolly Craft Show on Nov. 11-12.

The event will feature over 50 arts and crafts vendors, a silent auction, door prizes, bake sales, a frozen meals sale, a quilt drawing, a gift basket drawing, and even pictures with Santa. There will also be fresh baked apple pies and cookies prepared during the show.

Hours are Nov. 11 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Nov. 12 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The show is sponsored by the Mt. Zion United Methodist Women and all proceeds benefit charities that help women and children.

Powder Springs Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting

The City of Powder Springs will have a Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting on Dec. 2.

The parade will be 6:30 p.m. along Marietta Street to Downtown. The tree lighting will be 7:30 p.m., immediately following the parade, at Thurman Springs Park.

There will be complimentary cocoa, cookies and photos with Santa.

2022 Holiday Canned Food Drive at Tapp Middle School

Tapp Middle School, 3900 Macedonia Road in Powder Springs, will have the 2022 Holiday Canned Food Drive from Oct. 17 to Dec. 1.

The middle school is collecting canned goods and nonperishable items with the goal of reaching 10,000 items and raise $3,000 for the 11 Alive Can-A-Thon and Reflections of Trinity Food Bank.

The City will have collection areas for the public to drop off items until Nov. 30. The locations are the Powder Springs Police Department, 1114 Richard D. Sailors Parkway and Municipal Court in the Patricia C. Vaughn Cultural Arts Center, 4181 Atlanta Street.

Accepted canned items are soups, vegetables, meats, stews, chili, beans and fruit; dry goods like rice and pasta; peanut butter; jelly; and pancake mix. No glass items.

37th South Cobb Arts Alliance Christmas House

The 37th South Cobb Arts Alliance Christmas House will be held at the Ford Center in Powder Springs from Dec. 1-5.

The event celebrates and showcases original, handmade fine crafts and art by local artists. Special events include the Tea Room featuring Mrs. Edwards Bakery. Community activities will include breakfast with Santa, storytelling and a crafting project by local author Joanne Telcide-Bryant, plus a variety of entertainment, including square dancers, Artz for the Harp, Thomas Academy of Dance and the Choruses of Powder Springs Elementary and Garrett Middle School.

Veterans Day in Powder Springs

The City of Powder Springs will celebrate Veterans Day on Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial, 4181 Atlanta Street in front of the Powder Springs Library.

The event is put on by the American Legion Post 294 of Powder Springs in conjunction with the City. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held indoors at the Ford Center Reception Hall behind the library.

The program will feature the Presentation of Colors by the Post 294 Color Guard, patriotic music and comments by Post 294 Commander Greg Redner and Powder Springs Mayor Al Thurman. Serving as guest speaker will be Navy and Air Force veteran Lloyd Leinbaugh, a Post 294 member.

Town Center at Cobb mall to host Annual Santa Arrival on Nov. 11

Town Center at Cobb mall, 400 Ernest Barrett Parkway in Kennesaw, will welcome Santa Claus on Nov. 11 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. with an evening full of giveaways, balloon artists, activity tables and holiday entertainment.

The event will culminate as Santa and Mrs. Claus arrive in a sleigh pulled by real reindeer during the parade. Families can also experience the magical snowfall outside the Food Court mall entrance and snap photos with Santa at his home in Center Court until 9 p.m. The first 200 guests to visit Santa will receive a special gift. Guests are encouraged to donate toys, socks, blankets, puzzles and games for the MUST Ministries Toy Shop that serves families across the Cobb and Cherokee counties.

The Warrior Alliance and Cobb Community Foundation partner to support Navy Week Atlanta

The Warrior Alliance has announced a partnership with Cobb Community Foundation to support Navy Week Atlanta, a week-long series of entertainment events, U.S. Navy displays and community projects through Nov. 6.

Navy Week Atlanta brings Sailors from across the fleet to the area to emphasize the importance of the Navy to Atlanta, the state of Georgia and the nation. The week will conclude with a two-day performance by the Navy Flight Demonstration Team, The Blue Angels, at the Atlanta Air Show. Participating Navy organizations include Sailors from Naval Reserve Center Atlanta, USS Constitution, Office of Small Business Programs, Navy Talent Acquisition Group Atlanta, Naval History & Heritage Command, Navy Band Southeast, U.S. Naval Academy, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Group 2, U.S. Navy Ceremonial Guard, Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, Naval Meteorology Command, U.S. Navy Parachute Team, Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 72, Strike Fighter Squadron 11 and U.S. Fleet Forces.

As part of the events, Nov. 2 has been designated as Navy Day of Service in Cobb County which will involve Sailors and volunteers performing a variety of community-based activities to include area high school demonstrations, elementary school crafts, food packing, furniture assembly and local beautification projects. Cobb Community Foundation and The Warrior Alliance are working together to coordinate the program with assistance from the U.S. Navy Office of Community Outreach.

The Navy Day of Service will conclude with a free concert at The Battery Atlanta by the Navy Rock Band Southeast and live performances by the Navy Ceremonial Guard and Explosive Ordnance Group, a non-explosive robot demo, at the Battery Atlanta Georgia Power pavilion.

Create new worlds in popular role-playing game

The popularity of Dungeons and Dragons, the world-famous role-playing game, has skyrocketed since the pandemic.

Residents can learn how to play Dungeons and Dragons on Nov. 1 at Sibley Library, 1539 South Cobb Drive in Marietta.

Teens 13 and up, and adults may sign up to attend four sessions covering the rules, character creation, world-building and more.

Geographic Information Systems Day, better known as GIS Day, is a part of Geography Week.

Cobb County's GIS staff has a fun celebration planned for Nov. 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Sewell Mill Library and Cultural Arts Center, 2051 Lower Roswell Road in Marietta.

Civil War Roundtable of Cobb County November Meeting

The Civil War Roundtable of Cobb County will meet on Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. at the Hilton Atlanta/Marietta Hotel & Conference Center, 500 Powder Springs Street in Marietta.

Theresa Kaminski will discuss "Dr Mary Walker's Civil War: One Woman's Journey to the Medal of Honor and the Fight for Women's Rights."

The CWRTCC meets the first Thursday of each month and serves as a membership organization available to the public. The CWRTCC encourages the study, analysis and appreciation of the events, personalities, records and publications associated with the American Civil War.

First time visitors are free. Yearly dues are $45 per person or $65 per couple.

The CWRTCC will also have a book sale prior to the meeting from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Hundreds of Civil War related books for the avid collector are for sale.

Kennesaw to honor veterans at luncheon

The City of Kennesaw will honor the service of military members past and present with a complimentary lunch on Nov. 11 at noon at the Ben Robertson Community Center, 2753 Watts Drive in Kennesaw.

All veterans and active-duty military are invited to attend. No identification will be required. A small program will include acknowledgments from Mayor Derek Easterling, a special guest speaker, a presentation of colors by the North Cobb-Harrison NJROTC Unit and the POW/MIA recognition ceremony by the North Cobb American Legion Post 304.

This year's Veterans Day Luncheon is presented by the North Cobb Rotary Club. Lunch will be presented by Copeland's of Kennesaw.

The City of Acworth partners with Atlanta Beer Festivals each year to bring the annual Acworth Craft Beer & Wine Festival.

Santa's Arrival in Acworth

The City of Acworth, along with their partner NorthStar Church, will host Santa's Arrival.

Santa arrives in downtown Acworth on Center Street on Dec. 2. Festivities will begin at 5:30 p.m. and Santa is scheduled to arrive at 6:30 p.m. There will be a host of live performances and activities until 8:30 p.m. to help Santa kickoff the holiday season.

Participants can bring the family to hear Mayor Tommy Allegood read "The Night Before Christmas" and watch the lighting of the tree on the Plaza behind Henry's.

The Acworth Parks, Recreation and Community Resource Department will host Breakfast with the Grinch on Dec. 10 at the Acworth Community Center.
