Congregation Ner Tamid to have Pink Shabbat on Oct. 28

Congregation Ner Tamid, 1349 Old Highway 41, Suite 220 in Marietta, will have a Pink Shabbat on Oct. 28 at 7:30 p.m. for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The event will feature spaker Pam Rosenthal from It's the Journey, which runs the Georgia 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer.

Marietta Cobb Museum of Art to host "art of the cocktail" on Nov. 11

The Marietta Cobb Museum of Art, 30 Atlanta Street SE in Marietta, will be hosting the "art of the cocktail" on Nov. 11.

The featured cocktail will be created and presented by Tito's Handmade Vodka. Michael Price will be entertaining guests while they enjoy two exhibitions — More Than Dreams: Exploring the Surreal in Art and a selection of Landscapes from the Permanent Collection.

Guests can also participate in an Art Auction presented by and benefitting InCommunity, a non-profit agency in Atlanta that provides community-based services and support to people with developmental disabilities and their families.

Admission is free for members, $10 non-members. Hors d'oeuvres will be catered by Carriage House Catering and a cash bar will be available. Doors open at 6 p.m. and tickets are sold at the door.

Big SHEbang Bluegrass Festival is Oct. 30

The Big SHEbang Bluegrass Festival will be Oct. 30 from 2 to 5:30 p.m. at Raccoon Creek Music Park, 332 Music Park Path in Dallas.

Doors open at 1:15 p.m. All proceeds support the Marietta Police Athletic League whose mission is to prevent juvenile crime and violence by providing civic, athletic, recreational and educational opportunities that create trust and build understanding between law enforcement and youth.

The event will feature an event evening of music performed by award-winning singers, musicians and song-writers. Performers include:

Becky Buller, who has earned 10 IBMA awards, including Songwriter (2015), Female Vocalist (2016) and also in 2016 became the first woman to win the IBMA Fiddler award. In 2020 Buller co-wrote the 2020 IBMA Song Of The Year, "Chicago Barn Dance."

— Pam Gadd, former lead vocalist with Grammy Nominated Wild Rose. She toured with Patty Loveless, recorded with Dolly Parton and performed with Porter Wagoner on the Grand Ole Opry. She was also inducted into the Northern Kentucky Legends Hall of Fame in 2022.

— Irene Kelley, an ASCAP award winning songwriter with songs recorded by Alan Jackson, Trisha Yearwood, Loretta Lynn and Ricky Skaggs. As a recording artist, she has had seven No. 1 songs on the Bluegrass Today chart. She has performed on countless stages, including the Grand Ole Opry.

— Donna Ulisse, who has released 10 albums and is SPBGMA's 2022 Female Vocalist of the Year and Songwriter of the Year in 2016, 2018 and 2022. She co-wrote the 2017 Song of the Year, "I Am A Drifter."

Salvation Army Red Kettle Kick Off is Nov. 12

The Salvation Army of Marietta Cobb is set to host the Annual Red Kettle Kick Off on Nov. 12 at 11 a.m. at The Marietta Cobb Corps, 202 Waterman Street in Marietta.

This event serves as the official "ringing-in" of the holiday season for the Salvation Army. The festive celebration will include The Salvation Army Brass Band, special emcee Linda Stouffer, key note address by Marietta native and NBA All Star Dale Ellis and recognition of kettle sponsors, donors and volunteers.

Lts. Juan and Kirbi Reyes of the Marietta Cobb Corps will kick off the Red Kettle Campaign for 2022 with a holiday remark and honorary first dollar contribution. The ceremony also highlights the plethora of services offered by the Salvation Army, including youth services, after school programs, children's music classes, food pantry assistance, homelessness shower/laundry access, financial emergency intervention, church services and angel tree. Funds raised through the Red Kettles support these and other programs year round at The Salvation Army of Marietta Cobb Corps.

Red Kettle Goals in 2021 were exceeded by raising $428,000. The 2022 Campaign goal is $440,000. Dip Jars are also included in the campaign to allow for flexibility of giving.

Walk West Cobb: Sope Creek Park

The West Senior Center will have Walk West Cobb: Sope Creek Park on Oct. 27 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Once a month, participants can meet up and explore a different part of the county. This month, seniors can explore the trails at 3760 Paper Mill Road SE in Marietta.

Where Are Your Wildflowers?

The North Cobb Senior Center, 4100 S. Main Street in Acworth, will have Where Are Your Wildflowers? on Oct. 28 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Think October is time to put the garden to bed for the winter, think again. Instead of just pulling old plants, learn to sow native wildflowers to attract pollinators and add beauty to the landscape. One can also choose to plant cover crops to add nutrients to the soil and choke out weeds.

Welcome Ghouls and Goblins

The Tim Lee Senior Center, 3332 Sandy Plains Road in Marietta, will have Welcome Ghouls and Goblins on Oct. 28 from noon to 3 p.m.

Participants can enjoy some Ghoul-osh, Witches Brew and the Good Times band to kick off the holiday season and celebrate Halloween. This event benefits the Friends of Tim D. Lee.

The West Senior Center, 4915 Dallas Highway in Powder Springs, will have Fun in the Foyer: Halloween Hoopla on Oct. 31 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Participants can enjoy a cup of witch's brew and a free Halloween treat in the lobby. Come dressed in costume and get a special prize.
