Events will let Girl Scouts be in their element

Girl Scouts in the two councils in our readership area have a couple of events coming up. One event will be in Abilene, the other in San Angelo. Girls from either (or any) council are welcome to join in, if you can work out the travel logistics.

A word of warning, though: Deadline to register is Wednesday. See registration information at the end of this story.

Girl Scouts of Texas Oklahoma Plains is hosting Elemental Twilight Camp July 27-29 at Festival Gardens at Abilene Zoo. The elements of earth, wind, water and fire will be the feature as girls create STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) projects.

Snacks will be provided each night, with a fun surprise planned for Friday evening.

For readers in our southern areas, Girl Scout Night in San Angelo is planned July 22 from 6-9 p.m. This event, for girls entering first through fourth grades, allows them to hang out with friends (and perhaps find some new ones), play games and join in other activities. Pizza and a movie will top off the evening.

This part will appeal to some girls; adults, it’s all safe. This is a no-adults, drop-off event. Girl Scouts of Central Texas staff will provide supervision as the girls get to “let their hair down” for awhile.

The Abilene event costs $35, the San Angelo night $15.

San Angelo registration information is available at customercare@gsctx.com for San Angelo; Kayla Robinson, kaylar@gsctx.com, will be the event contact.

For the Abilene camp, register at customercare@gs-top.org or 800-582-7272. Carrie Seals (cseals@gs-top.org or 806-589-5943) is the event contact.

Remember, deadline is Wednesday to make contact and register.

Do you like to paint?

Another event, for children entering first through sixth grades, is Paint Palooza Camp July 25-29 at The Grace Museum, 102 Cypress St. in Abilene. As of last week, there were still openings; check at thegracemuseum.org under “Events and classes” for updated information.

Participants will meet 9 a.m.-noon each day and learn about mixing paints and painting with a variety of mediums. Supplies, a T-shirt and snacks will be provided to all participants.

Cost is $125 ($100 for museum members). To get involved, check at the address listed above or call the museum at 325-673-4587. Note that The Grace is closed on Mondays.
