Here are some events to mark the one-year since war in Ukraine started

Several events will take place throughout the Philadelphia region this week to mark the one-year anniversary of the start of the war in Ukraine.

At Manor College on Thursday, a war-time bread called palianytsia will be baked with U.S. Rep. Madeleine Dean and state Rep. Ben, both of Montgomery County, participating in the effort to supply the bread to Ukrainian refugees now living in the area. The event begins at 10 a.m. at the Ukrainian Heritage Studies Center, 700 Fox Chase Road, Jenkintown. The representatives will participate in a news conference on the war following the bread making.

On Friday, a Stand with Ukraine Candlelight Vigil will take place at the Ukrainian Educational & Cultural Center at 6 p.m. The center is located at 700 North Cedar Road in Jenkintown.

The event will remember the lives lost and provide ways to continue to support the country still under attack by Russian forces. The Ukrainian Consul in Philadelphia, Iryna Mazur, will join clergy, government representatives and members of the Ukrainian and American community will participate.

“On behalf of the Ukrainian community of the Delaware Valley, the board of directors thanks our supporters for their generoisty and aid for the people of our ancestral homeland, said Natalie Firko, president of the UECC Board of Directors. “We invite all who show support for our war-torn Ukraine to come gather on this day.”

The Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church has declared Feb. 24 a day of fasting, prayer and almsgiving.

On Feb. 25, a 2 p.m. rally in support of Ukraine will take place in Washington, D.C. at the Lincoln Memorial Circle, Northwest. Buses taking participants to the rally will leave at 9 a.m. from Manor College, 700 Fox Chase Road, Jenkintown; St. Michael Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1013 Fox Chase Road, Jenkintown; and from the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 830 N.
