Events at One Daytona kick off Speedweeks festivities leading up to the Daytona 500

DAYTONA BEACH ― Speedweek festivities rev up on Tuesday, Feb. 13, with the NASCAR Haulers Showcase, not at Daytona International Speedway, but at the One Daytona complex across the street.

The free, open-to-the-public event from 5 to 7 p.m. will include a parade down One Daytona Boulevard of all 40 NASCAR race team hauler trucks and more.

"You're going to get to see the NASCAR haulers up close and in-person," said Roxanne Ribakoff, the president of One Daytona. "There's also going to be family-friendly entertainment, some live music, some games to be played. It's all going to be in the name of fun and kicking off our Speedweek here at One Daytona."

"While attendees are in town, they can take advantage of the restaurants, entertainment and shopping we offer at our lifestyle and entertainment center," she added. "Some of our businesses at One Daytona may extend their operating hours based on the race schedule. We recommend fans and locals reach out to the businesses they are interested in directly to learn more about their hours during race week."

One Daytona to also host half-marathon

On Feb. 11, the Sunday before the Daytona 500, One Daytona and Daytona International Speedway will the host site for the "Daytona 2 Beach Half Marathon & 5K," from 7:15 to 11 a.m.

The event put on by Clash Endurance will begin at the Speedway, with all athletes running through the track, and finish at Victory Circle at One Daytona.

What is One Daytona?

Located at 1 Daytona Blvd., the complex is a "lifestyle and entertainment center" that was developed by NASCAR in 2016 to serve as a complement to its $400 million "Daytona Rising" makeover of the Speedway, a.k.a., "World Center of Racing."

The 300,000-square-foot multiple building complex covers more than 70 acres and includes the 12-screen CMX Daytona Luxury 12 Theatres, two hotels, luxury apartments, a Bass Pro Shops store, and an array of restaurants, shops and entertainment venues.

The "Victory Circle" area includes a stage for live music, outdoor seating, and a kids-splash area surrounded by The Daytona Marriott Autograph Collection hotel and several eateries.

One Daytona Boulevard is a several block promenade that leads from the entertainment/retail complex's main entrance off West International Speedway Boulevard north to the CMX movie theater.

The complex also has an outdoor Fit Park sponsored by AdventHealth.

One Daytona includes the eight-story International Motorsports Center office building where NASCAR has its headquarters.

Next door is another NASCAR-owned retail center, the Shoppes at One Daytona on the northwest corner of West International Speedway Boulevard and Bill France Boulevard, which offers more restaurants and stores.

One Daytona offers two pedestrian overpasses that connect directly to the Speedway across the street. The western-most overpass includes the iconic "Welcome to Daytona Beach" sign and is next to Bass Pro Shops. The newer overpass to the east is near the ISB entrance to The Shoppes.

It was built with help from local taxpayers

NASCAR spent more than $100 million to build the shopping, dining and entertainment portions of the One Daytona complex as well as to revamp the existing The Shoppes retail center next door.

Local taxpayers also chipped $40 million, half from the City of Daytona Beach and half from Volusia County, to help pay for infrastructure improvements such as new roads and electric, water and sewer lines. The property was once a General Electric plant that closed in the early 1990s.

The public/private partnership's goal was to create new jobs and transform what was an under-utilized aging property into a year-round attraction to appeal to both locals and visitors. Some of the restaurants and stores at One Daytona were the first Volusia County locations for national chains.

Restaurants and shops (with the exception of the soon-to-open Costco) charge customers a 1% "enhanced amenity fee" for purchases made at One Daytona to help offset some of NASCAR's investment. The money, which is privately collected by NASCAR, does not go to either the City or County.

Costco set to open after the Daytona 500

Four days after the Daytona 500, on Thursday, Feb. 22, One Daytona will welcome its newest store: a Costco Wholesale member warehouse club located west of the CMX movie theater, north of the parking lot for Bass Pro Shops.

The store will open immediately following a ribbon-cutting ceremony with members of the Daytona Regional Chamber of Commerce.

A members-only Costco gas station opened Feb. 1 directly south of the Costco club store.
