EVENTS: Windsor church to have used book sale; contra dance to be held Friday

Nov. 3—WINDSOR — First Church in Windsor will hold its annual used book sale Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Parish House, 107 Palisado Ave.

There will be plenty of used books, DVDs, jigsaw puzzles, and children's books available for sale.

Proceeds will be used to support the missions and ministries of First Church in Windsor.

Contra dance

COVENTRY — There will be a Quiet Corner Contra Dance on Friday from 8 to 11 p.m., with an introductory lesson at 7:45 p.m., at Mill Brook Place, 1267 Main St. across the street from the Bidwell Tavern (this month only).

The cost is adults $12, students $6. It is not necessary to have a partner. Wear soft-soled shoes and light-layered clothes. Music will be by The Boom Chicks; dances called by Don Veino.

Turkey shoot

EAST WINDSOR — East Windsor Lions will hold turkey shoots Sunday and Nov. 13 and 20 at 37 North Road, Route 140.

Ticket sales start at 8:15 a.m. The target shooting starts at 9 a.m. and goes until 1 p.m. or sooner, depending on the number of shooters.

Tickets are $2.75 and more, depending on the round prize, which may include frozen turkeys, hams, fresh beef roasts, cash, and gift certificates. Guns and ammo are provided as part of the cost of the ticket.

This is a major fundraiser for the local Lions Club.

Designer purse bingo

VERNON — The Ladies of St Joseph, 33 West St., Rockville section, will hold a designer purse bingo for ages 21 and older Saturday from 5 to 9 p.m.

The cost is $35 at the door. Designer purses made by Coach, Kate Spade, and others will be featured.

Antiques show

WETHERSFIELD — The Wethersfield Antiques Show will be held at the Webb Deane Stevens Museum, 211 Main St. An opening night preview party will be held Friday from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The show continues Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Twenty-one regional dealers will bring their treasures.

The Wethersfield Antiques Show is one of the Webb Deane Stevens Museum's largest annual fundraisers.

Admission to the preview party is $65 in advance, $75 at the door, and includes weekend passes to the show.

General admission to the show is $15.

HARTFORD — The Hartford Gay & Lesbian Health Collective's 20th One Big Event will be held Nov. 12 at the Hartford Marriott Downtown.
