Eversource to install ground wire in Columbia, Lebanon

Oct. 3—COLUMBIA LEBANON — People in Lebanon and Columbia might have noticed a helicopter flying up in the sky recently.

That is because Eversource Energy has been performing intermittent helicopter work to pull approximately 47 miles of optical ground wire (OPGW) as part of the 310 Line OPGW Installation Project between the Manchester Substation in Manchester and the Millstone Substation in Waterford.

Optical ground wire is a type of cable used in overhead power lines.

The 47- mile area where the wire is being installed includes the towns of Manchester, Glastonbury, Hebron, Andover, Columbia, Lebanon, Bozrah, Montville and Waterford.

Flights for the project began on Monday, August 8 and will conclude on Saturday, December 10.

Work hours will be Monday through Saturday from 7 a. m. to 7 p. m. However, any adverse flying conditions will require rescheduling.

The helicopters for the ground wire installation are provided by One Span, a company that has a fleet of helicopters to complete a variety of different projects.

The helicopters for the project are a gunmetal gray MD369D, tail number N69DV, and a yellow, white and black MD369E, tail number N600FH.
