May 16—Restaurants across Aiken participated in Celebrity Waiter Night on Monday in efforts to raise funds for Children's Place.

During the event, local "celebrities" served as waiters at various establishments. All tips earned during the event will help support Children's Place.

"Celebrity Waiter Night is a really big fundraiser for Children's Place," said Rosalyn Greene, a Children's Place board member. "Our mission [at Children's Place] is really to help build up children who have been through childhood traumatic experiences, but also to strengthen families. We really thank all our donors and all of our volunteers."

Many notable individuals served as waiters during the event — one of those being Mayor Rick Osbon, who was stationed at Malia's downtown.

"It's so special, I think, that the community comes out and supports it," Osbon said about the fundraiser. "We have a great time doing this and I think everyone feels complete and fulfilled at the end of the evening. Great food, great fellowship and raising money for a great cause."

This year, Aiken Fish House and Oyster Bar joined the list of participating restaurants. Students from the Aiken Scholars Academy participated there.

"The kids are doing great. They're having a good time, they're learning what it's like to be in the real-world a little bit," said Aiken Scholars Academy Principal Martha Messick.

Other venues that took part in the fun included Casa Bella, Whiskey Alley, The Feed Sack and Tailgate Tavern, among others.

Raffle tickets were sold at each location for a pair of 14k diamond stud earrings provided by Floyd & Green Jewelers. The prize winner will be announced June 9. All raffle ticket sales will benefit the Children's Place.
