‘Everything is delicious!’ Poll finds most romantic restaurant for Valentines in Whatcom

We asked readers what restaurant is the most romantic in Whatcom County and the votes are in.
The poll had 13 local restaurants in Whatcom County including Keenan’s at the Pier, Milano’s Italian Restaurant, Lombardi’s and Anthony’s at Squalicum Harbor.
The unscientific poll received a total of 124 votes.
The most romantic restaurant in Whatcom County
The Black Cat received 24 votes to top the list of the most romantic restaurant in Whatcom County.
The Black Cat serves Sunday brunch, lunch and dinner, as well as a late-night menu of cocktails and appetizers. The restaurant is tucked away in Fairhaven and is a great spot for Valentine’s dinner.
“The Black Cat started as a French-burlesque-inspired restaurant, with tableside service for Caesar (salads) and steaks which set the tone for romance. The atmosphere is low lights and moody with candles and great cocktails. The views of sunsets are amazing all throughout the year and bring its own romantic lights into the restaurant,” Chevy Roberts, general manager of The Black Cat wrote in an email to The Bellingham Herald.
For Valentine’s Day, the romantic restaurant is also offering special dishes and decor that will be available Friday-Tuesday, Feb. 10-14. The restaurant will be decorated with flowers and candles and serve a special menu featuring a brie appetizer with cherry compote, filet mignon, lobster thermidor, chocolate-covered strawberries and a chocolate raspberry cake, according to Roberts.
The restaurant has won two of The Bellingham Herald’s previous reader polls, being named as having the best happy hour and the best soup in Whatcom County. The Black Cat is also popular online, receiving a 4-star rating from 325 Yelp reviews.

The Black Cat is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday. Happy hour is available from 3-6 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The Black Cat offers a late-night menu after 10 p.m. until close and is located at 1200 Harris Ave. in Bellingham.
Following The Black Cat with 19 votes was Keenan’s at the Pier.
The waterfront restaurant is located inside The Chrysalis Inn & Spa and serves breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, happy hour and dessert. Those visiting for a romantic Valentine’s dinner can enjoy crab cakes, beef short ribs, scallops and finish with creme brulee or a chocolate torte.
Keenan’s at the Pier has also received high reviews online from visitors, with a 4-star rating from 378 Yelp reviews.

Keenan’s at the Pier is open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, and is at 804 10th St. in Bellingham. Reservations are strongly recommended and can be made online or by calling 360-392-5510.
In third place was The Steak House at Silver Reef and The Fork at Agate Bay with 14 votes each, followed by Anthony’s Hearthfire Grill with 12 votes.
