What happens at Nissan Stadium in case of bad weather

As with most outdoors events in spring and summer, weather could complicate Friday evening's show. A look at the forecast:

  • Afternoon: The National Weather Service calls for a 50% chance of rain between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Friday afternoon, potentially causing a soggy commute the stadium. A slight chance of thunderstorms begins after 4 p.m.

  • Evening: Shower and thunderstorm chances bounce back to 50% Friday night, according to the service. Temperatures should bottom out around 62 degrees with a slight breeze from the south.

If it rains, the show goes on. Pack a rain jacket, wear weather-ready shoes and tuck your valuables into a sealable plastic bag.

If lightning strikes near the venue? Things get complicated. Concert promoters and venue organizers handle each weather situation differently, and Nissan Stadium isn't immune to storm-related postponements — just ask the Taylor Swift fans who waited out a four-hour storm delay before her final night in Nashville earlier this month.

If lightning strikes within eight miles of the stage, the venue must cease the concert and ask show-goers to shelter-in-place. After 30 minutes of no lightning strikes within eight miles, the show can resume. Concert officials work with the Nashville Office of Emergency Management and National Weather Service to determine when a show needs to be paused.

Stay glued to Nissan Stadium on Twitter for potential weather-delay updates.

Billy Joel and Stevie Nicks tickets

At publication time, a single ticket could be purchase via ticketmaster.com for $95 before fees. Two tickets seated together began at $140 each before fees.

The tour

Joel and Nicks launched the "two legends" bill earlier this year at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. It isn't an expansive run; they play about one stadium show together a month. Between the touring gigs, Joel continues his long-running Madison Square Garden residency, while Nicks tours arenas as a standalone headliner.

The Joel-Nicks tour continues this year with stops in Philadelphia, Kansas City, Baltimore and Minneapolis, among other cities.

Joel & Nicks in Nashville

While one of Friday's co-headlining show-makers hasn't played Music City in nearly a decade, neither of these Rock & Roll Hall of Fame artists are strangers to a Nashville audience.

On Friday, Nicks makes her third Middle Tennessee stop in the last year. She co-headlined Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival last June in nearby Manchester, Tennessee, before returning in October for a rainy night at Ascend Amphitheater.

Meanwhile, Joel plays his first Nashville gig since headlining Bridgestone Arena in 2014. He's also a Bonnaroo alum; Joel co-headlined the four-night festival in 2015.
