Everything We Know (So Far) About the Sex and the City Reboot

If there’s one rule that all of Hollywood appears to have gotten the message about, it’s this: “Wildly popular aughts show” plus “reboot” equals “TV magic.” That’s what happened with the Gossip Girl reboot, and now, the ladies of Sex and the City (plus more than a few of the gentlemen—hello, Stanford Blatch) are getting the revival treatment, too, in a brand-new series titled And Just Like That. Below, find everything we know so far about the Sex and the City reboot.

What will the reboot be about?

According to the one-minute teaser trailer, it will revolve around Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) getting up to their old tricks, i.e., trying to “have it all” in the big city. Thus far, we know that Carrie is divorced from Mr. Big, plus she’s a podcast host, of course, because this is 2021. COVID-19 will also be referenced, which...hmm.

Who’s slated to appear beyond Parker, Nixon, and Davis?

Mr. Big will be back, of course, as will Stanford (Willie Garson); Charlotte’s husband, Harry (Evan Handler); Carrie’s ex Aidan (John Corbett); Miranda’s husband—a.k.a. my dream man—Steve (David Eigenberg); Stanford’s boo, Anthony (Mario Cantone); and Big’s ex Natasha (Bridget Moynahan). Plus, everyone’s kids! As near adults! Weird! Sara Ramírez, Nicole Ari Parker, Sarita Choudhury, and Karen Pittman will also appear in original roles.

Where will the reboot air?

Like the Gossip Girl reboot, the newest installment of Sex and the City will air on HBO Max.

When will the reboot premiere?

No date has been set yet for the SATC revival, but the news was made official by HBO Max in January and production began in New York City this spring, so hopefully we won’t have too long to wait.

Last but not least, will Kim Cattrall make a reappearance as Samantha Jones?

No, and trust me when I say that this constitutes a crime against nature. Still, the decision not to appear in any subsequent Sex and the City franchise revivals appears to be Cattrall’s, at least according to this 2017 tweet:
