Everything to know about Nashville's bid to host the 2026 World Cup at Nissan Stadium

Nashville is one of 17 cities that are bidding to host the 2026 World Cup. FIFA is expected to make the decision on the tournament's 10 American host cities during a selection event on Thursday.

If the tournament is slated to take place in the Music City, Nissan Stadium is preparing to be the host venue. The Titans recently announced a plan, which hasn't been approved yet, for a new stadium on the East Bank that will be completed in time for the 2026 World Cup.

The tournament is currently planning on hosting 60 matches in the United States, including the quarterfinals, semifinal and final. FIFA is also planning to have Canada and Mexico host 10 matches each.

Which U.S. cities could host 2026 World Cup?

Nashville is one of 22 candidate host cities to host matches for the 2026 World Cup.

Along with the Music City, 15 other American cities can be selected to host tournament matches. Those include Atlanta (Mercedes-Benz Stadium), Boston (Gillette Stadium), Cincinnati (Paul Brown Stadium), Dallas (AT&T Stadium), Denver (Empower Field at Mile High), Houston (NRG Stadium), Kansas City (Arrowhead Stadium), Los Angeles (Rose Bowl and SoFi Stadium), Miami (Hard Rock Stadium), New York/New Jersey (MetLife Stadium), Orlando (Camping World Stadium), Philadelphia (Lincoln Financial Field), San Francisco (Levi's Stadium), Seattle (Lumen Field), and Baltimore (M&T Bank Stadium).

Both Canada and Mexico have three cities each that are candidates to host 10 matches in the tournament. Those include Edmonton (Commonwealth Stadium), Toronto (BMO Field), Vancouver (BC Place), Guadalajara (Estadio Akron), Mexico City (Estadio Azteca) and Monterrey (Estadio BBVA).

There could potentially be 11 U.S. cities selected, depending on how many Canadian cities FIFA selects. The chosen host cities will be revealed during the ceremony hosted in New York City Thursday afternoon.
