Day 2: Bracket play

Wednesday, Dec. 28, will determine final placements. Once again, each team will play two games. When, where and with what at stake depends on how well they do in pool play.

There will be three brackets: gold, silver and bronze. The first-place team from each pool will play in the gold bracket and make up first through fourth place overall. The second-place team from each pool will play in the silver bracket and make up fifth through eighth place overall. The third-place team from each pool will play in the bronze bracket and make up ninth through 12th place overall.

This, essentially, creates three separate four-team mini tournaments to decide who finishes where. Two semifinal games will be played in each bracket. Following those games, the losers will play a consolation game for third place in their respective bracket. Then, the winners will play for first place in their respective bracket.

Here are Wednesday’s game times, locations and what the matchups will look like following pool play:

Gold bracket

11:30 a.m. — 1A vs. 1B at Richmond’s Tiernan Center

1 p.m. — 1C vs. 1D at Richmond’s Tiernan Center

6:30 p.m. — Loser vs. Loser (3rd-place game) at Richmond’s Tiernan Center

8 p.m. — Winner vs. Winner (Championship game) at Richmond’s Tiernan Center

Silver bracket

1 p.m. — 2C vs. 2D at IU East’s Lingle Court

5 p.m. — Loser vs. Loser (7th-place game) at IU East’s Lingle Court

5 p.m. — Winner vs. Winner (5th-place game) at Richmond’s Tiernan Center

Bronze bracket

8:30 a.m. — 3A vs. 3B at Richmond’s Tiernan Center

10 a.m. — 3C vs. 3D at Richmond’s Tiernan Center

2:30 p.m. — Loser vs. Loser (11th-place game) at IU East’s Lingle Court

2:30 p.m. — Winner vs. Winner (9th-place game) at Richmond’s Tiernan Center

Pool play tiebreaker

If all three teams from the same pool finish pool play with one win and one loss, point differentials from pool play will be used to determine seeding. Teams would be ranked according to the sum of their point differentials from each game. The team with the largest point differential would be first and advance to the gold bracket. The team with the second-highest point differential would be second and advance to the silver bracket. The team with the lowest point differential would be third and advance to the bronze bracket.

The maximum point differential for a game will be 15 points. For example, if Team A beats Team B by 27 points, Team A would be recorded as winning by 15 points if a tiebreaker is required.

Tickets

A one-day pass, good for both locations, is $10. A two-day pass, good for both locations, is $15.

In-person ticket sales (cash only) will begin at both locations one hour before the first game at that site. You can also purchase tickets online (two-day passes only) on Richmond’s Eventlink website.
