On June 21, Perrigo Compay issued a voluntary recall of an infant formula sold exclusively at Walmart. In the company’s official news release, Perrigo says the recall is due to the “potential presence of metal foreign matter” in the formula. Though no adverse incidents have yet to be reported, a consumer report caused the company to exercise extreme caution. The recall was also conducted in consultation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
This recall affects a single lot, or 23,388 containers, of the 35-ounce, 992-gram containers of Parent’s Choice Advantage Infant Formula Milk-Based Powder with Iron. The affected product will have the Lot Code C26EVFV with a “use by” date of February 26, 2021, on the bottom of the container.
On Walmart’s website, Parent’s Choice Advantage Infant Formula Milk-Based Powder with Iron is sold for $19.98 and described as “complete nutrition” for a baby’s first year of life. The product description reads: “This formula is quick and easy to make. All you have to do is add water and shake. Feed your kid with confidence by using Parent’s Choice Advantage Infant Formula.”
If parents suspect they have an affected container of formula, they should immediately stop using the product and return it to Walmart for a full refund. Perrigo’s official statement also advises parents to contact Perrigo Consumer Affairs at 866-629-6181 if they have any further questions, as well as their own healthcare provider for any health-related concerns. Perrigo Company’s mission statement says they are “dedicated to making lives better by bringing high quality and affordable self-care products that consumers trust everywhere they are sold.”
