Everything you need to know about watching Mexico and Chile face-off at Q2 Stadium

History will be made at Q2 Stadium this month. For the first time ever, the Mexican men’s national soccer team will play in Austin. They’re facing off in a friendly against Chile on Wednesday, Dec. 8 at 8:30 p.m. CT at Q2 Stadium, Austin FC's home stadium that opened this summer.

The match is part of the 18th annual MexTour, a series of friendly matches that Mexico plays at stadiums across the U.S. It will be Mexico’s sixth and final match in the 2021 MexTour, and an important one as Mexico looks ahead to three FIFA World Cup qualifiers in January. In MexTour’s 18 year history, Mexico has never before played in Austin.

Since opening in June, Q2 Stadium has hosted three international matches. The U.S. women’s national team earned a 2-0 friendly victory over Nigeria on June 16, and the U.S. men’s national team won two games at Q2 this year, beating Qatar in the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup Semifinal on July 29 and Jamaica in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying on October 7. All three games were sell-outs.

As a city with a substantial Mexican-American population, this is a big deal for Austin. We’ve rounded up everything you need to know about the game so you don’t miss it.
