After more than a year away we could not be more excited for the return of Yellowjackets on Paramount+ for season two. Whilst we're getting stuck into the new series, which began airing last night btw (26th March), we're already eagerly anticipating the third season, which has already been confirmed.
So who will be returning for a third season of Yellowjackets? And what has the team said about the next season? Here's everything you need to know about season three of Yellowjackets.
What is Yellowjackets about?
In case you're not caught up on Yellowjackets (um, hello, where have you been?) then it's a part thriller, part horror and part mystery series.
It's set in a dual timeline and in the 1996 timeline a girls' soccer team's plane crashes whilst they're flying over Canada. They are left stranded and must survive in the wilderness for the next 19 months.
25 years later, they have to struggle with supernatural events and come to terms with their past.
Has Yellowjackets season 3 been confirmed?
It sure has! Ahead of the release of season two in March this year, season three of Yellowjackets was confirmed in December 2022.
Chris McCarthy, president and CEO of Showtime and Paramount Media Networks, said the team was super excited to get another season locked in ahead of the release of season three.
He said: "With ‘Yellowjackets’ runaway success in season 1 and the pent-up anticipation for season 2, we wanted to maximise the momentum by fast tracking season 3 now.
"The show’s ambition is only exceeded by its execution, and I thank the incredible creative team behind it, including Ashley, Bart, Jonathan, eOne and the Showtime team, for turning this into such a success.” So exciting!
Who will star in Yellowjackets season 3?
Yellowjackets has a truly phenomenal cast with Melanie Lynskey, Tawny Cypress, Christina Ricci, Juliette Lewis, Lauren Ambrose and Simone Kessell taking on the roles of the women in the current time period.
And Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sammi Hanratty, Sophie Thatcher, Liv Hewson and Courtney Eaton playing the roles of the girls in the 1996 timeline.
Until we know what happens in season two, which ends on 21st May, we won't know for sure which of the cast members will be returning for season three, but we'd hope to see as many of them as possible.

But we do already know Melanie Lynskey is keen to return for season three, as after the news was confirmed, she shared a tweet saying: "Look I’ll do this show forever if they let me."
Um, yes please!
Is there a release date for Yellowjackets season 3?
As of yet, there is not a set release date for the third season. However, given the timeline of season two we can make an estmation of when it could be.
Season two was confirmed in December 2021, with the series then airing in March 2023. If season three were to follow a similar pattern, it was confirmed in December 2022, then we could look to be seeing season three in March 2024. Fingers crossed!
