GALION — From reiki, pendulum kits and crystals to tarot card decks and items made by local crafters and artists, RavensCloak Reiki and Treasures offers something for everyone.

Owner Brittany Whirl said she always knew she wanted to be in business for herself and when she saw an opportunity to open a shop in downtown Galion, she seized it.

“I have always had a passion for helping others and a love of art. I want to be able to help people in my own way,” said Whirl, who has worked as a manager for other businesses in the past. “You know those days where you don’t want to be home but you're not sure where to go? I wanted to create a space and energy that people can come in and just breathe on a bad day and relax.”

Whirl and her husband, Kurt, bought the building at 120 Harding Way West, which once housed Payne’s Pizza, made the necessary changes to make it a tranquil space for reiki as well as a store for retail products and beautiful art by local artists and crafters. The business opened on June 2, 2022.

“I love practicing Reiki and I do a lot of crafting," Whirl said. "My husband does a lot of woodworking, so we were considering opening a business and noticed that the Payne’s Pizza building had been empty for several years.”

Reiki is an energy healing technique that is done through gentle hand movements by a reiki master who has had formal training. The intention is to bring healthy energy to the person while reducing stress and promoting healing of the person’s body.

Whirl has been practicing reiki since 2016 and is currently at a level three reiki master teacher.

“I wanted to create a space for people to come, be in the positive energy and enjoy the art,” Whirl said. “You can get reiki done here and shop. People can schedule appointments to have the reiki service. They can call or book online.”

Whirl is currently working with more than 60 local artists and vendors on consignment, including artists from Bucyrus, Galion, Crestline, Ontario, Shelby, Mansfield and several other local areas, she said.

“I love supporting local artists and crafters,” Whirl said.

The store offers candles, incense, books, crystals, tarot cards, framed art, wreaths and much more.

“Everything we offer is a form of self-care. Whether it is a painting that is calming to a person or bath soaps, or bath bombs, sugar scrubs, all that fun stuff for self-care and relaxation,” Whirl said.

Some of the latest items Whirl is offering at the store include lavender sage cleansing spray, Palo Santo burners, rope incense and a variety of handmade dolls and hats.

A pound fitness class is one of the many classes and events Whirl offers throughout the year.

“We have done macramé classes, art classes, and I am hoping to get into informational classes about things like crystals and other things that people have expressed interest in,” she said.

A Dungeons & Dragons session is offered from 5 to 7 p.m. every Tuesday. It is free to play, but spots are limited so people should call or message to be placed on the list.

“It is something that a lot of people love. It is a form of self-care in the fact that people can come in, just play and escape for a bit,” Whirl said.

A Mind, Body and Soul class, offered 10 a.m. to noon May 13, will include light stretching, a guided meditation with journaling, rhythmic breathing and a sound bath as well as a journal that participants can keep. People can register for the class by calling the shop or through the event listing on Facebook.
