Everywhere You Can Score Free Donuts on National Donut Day 2021
The sweetest day of the year has finally arrived. No, not Valentine's Day. Sorry, not Fourth of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving, or Christmas, either. It's National Donut Day, of course! And while you can certainly celebrate by making your own donut creations via any one of the delicious donut recipes available online, if you're looking to mark the day by not breaking the bank (or, better yet, not spending any money at all), you can go pick up a free donut at a number of establishments.
This year, National Donut Day lands on Friday, June 4 — and while the holiday has certainly gained popularity as of late (after all, who doesn't like donuts?) the origins of this delicious day are not widely known. According to NationalDayCalendar.com, National Donut Day began as a fundraiser for Chicago's Salvation Army in 1938. The goal was to raise money for those struggling during the Great Depression, while simultaneously honoring the women who served donuts to soldiers during the first World War.
Today, a number of establishments are offering free donuts to celebrate National Donut Day, with many more offering National Donut Day deals and discounts. Of course, you're also encouraged to check out your neighborhood, family-owned establishments to see what deals they may be offering, too.
Here's a list of national chains offering free or extremely discounted donuts on National Donut Day:
Dunkin': Customers will receive a free classic donut of their choice with any purchase of a Dunkin' beverage (while supplies last). Dunkin' also released their #NationalDonutDay collection on Thursday, along with limited-edition customizable fashion items.
Duck Donuts: Donut lovers will receive a free bare, cinnamon sugar, or powdered sugar donut on Friday, no purchase necessary.
DiGiorno: The pizza company is hosting a Twitter sweepstakes to give away their DiGiornut, a “pizza + donut mashup." To enter, fans can reply to @DiGiorno’s tweet with #sweepstakes for a chance to win six DiGiornuts.
Krispy Kreme: Not only will customers receive any donut for free on Friday, no purchase necessary, they'll also get a $1 Original Glazed dozen with any dozen doughnuts purchase. And if you show your Covid-19 vaccination card, you could receive two free donuts on Friday.
Tim Hortons: Registered rewards members will receive one classic or specialty donut for 50 cents with any eligible purchase over 50 cents. This deal continues through June 15.
Smokey Bones: Customers who spend $40 or more will receive a free Bag O' Donuts on Friday.
Maverik Adventure’s First Stop: Every donut will be available for $1 Friday (except their raspberry fritters).
Shipley Do-Nuts: For the earlier risers out there, you can score one free glazed “Do-Nut” with any purchase from 5 a.m. to noon, while supplies last.
Walmart: From 12:30 pm to 6:30 pm, some Walmart locations will be offering customers a free doughnut and coffee.
Cumberland Farms: Another freebie for morning people, between 5:00 a.m. and 10:00 am. Cumberland Farms will be offering customers a free donut with any beverage purchase.
