Ex-bodyguard claims David Koch’s widow used code words to lie to billionaire before his death and asked nurses to lock him in a room during dinner party

Billionaire industrialist David Koch’s wife duped and shunned her Republican megadonor husband in the months before he died, says a bodyguard who claims the wealthy widow mistreated her.

Felicia Racine, 29, claims her ex-boss Julia Koch ordered her to go along with the duplicitous behavior and subjected her to gender-based discrimination as Racine provided security for the family amid a “hostile work environment” between January 2018 and April 2020.

In a complaint filed last week with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and obtained by the Daily News, Racine says Julia used code words to hide real estate and lavish travel plans from her husband, told nurses to lock him in a room during a dinner party and carried on a clandestine relationship with another man before Koch died at age 79 last August.

Racine, a U.S. Air Force veteran, says in her complaint that she was present at a dinner party Julia, 58, threw in mid-2019 when Koch — whose $50.5 billion net worth ranked him as Forbes magazine’s 11th wealthiest American — exited his bedroom, tried to join the group, put his arm around Julia and said “I love her.”

The bodyguard said she was nearby, acting as security, when Julia instructed another staffer and some nurses to take Koch away.

“Escort him back to this room now, you have to lock the door, lock him there so he doesn’t interrupt the dinner party again,” Julia allegedly said, according to the complaint.

Racine further claims that during her training at the start of her employment, she was instructed by a superior that Julia, despite being married to David, had a “boyfriend” named Charles Manger.

“Manger typically visited with Julia at several Koch residences, while David Sr. was still alive, including the Southampton residence,” the complaint filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission states.

“Felicia provided some security for both Julia and Manger together as a couple,” it claims.

Racine says in her 17-page filing that Julia also instructed her to never mention the $40 million Manhattan townhouse that Julia bought in October 2018 while David lived at another New York residence.

“Refer to the house as Hamilton, do not talk about this front of David Sr.,” Julia allegedly told Racine while instructing the bodyguard to hide any news reports about the purchase.

Racine claims Julia also asked her to stay mum about a June 2018 family trip to South Africa that allegedly included Julia’s siblings, nieces and nephews.

“Refer to this trip as Project X, I do not want (David Sr.) going on the trip,” Julia purportedly told her, according to the complaint.

In an interview with The News, Racine said the scope of the alleged treachery she was drawn into left her in fear of her boss.

“The deception and lies for sure made me fearful of losing my job if I did speak up,” she said.

“I was always under the impression that they had so much money, if you don’t just bite your tongue and go along with things, they’ll get rid of you,” she said.

According to Racine’s filing, a senior staffer at the security firm employed by the Koch family told Racine that Julia also commissioned a replica of a multimillion-dollar Amedeo Modigliani painting owned by the family so she could move the original to the new townhouse without her husband noticing.

The ex-bodyguard further claims she heard from nurses that Julia didn’t want them to use a feeding tube to treat David Sr. in the months before his August 23 death.

“(Julia) won’t allow him to have a feeding tube, it’s not right, he’s gonna die, we are uncomfortable with it because he is no longer eating and is basically starving to death,” the nurses allegedly told Racine, according to the complaint.

“Felicia believed that Julia had refused David Sr.‘s feeding tube because Julia could not deal with David Sr. anymore and did not want his life prolonged further,” the filing prepared by Racine’s lawyer David H. Rosenberg states.

Racine claims she also was tricked into delivering a fake ID to the Koch’s underage son David Jr. in West Palm Beach and repeatedly was asked to “mother” Koch daughter Mary.

The bodyguard said Julia requested that she make Mary’s bed, get the Harvard University freshman to leave late-night parties in Boston and stop the teen from hitching a short ride on a friend’s private plane.

Racine claims the male bodyguards employed by the Koch family were not asked to do such remedial, personal tasks and that she was fired April 1 on the pretense that her husband’s transfer to California as an active-duty member of the Air Force would hinder her ability to do her job.

“As a result of the discriminatory/retaliatory termination, Felicia suffered and continues to suffer damages,” the complaint states.

A lawyer representing Koch Industries and Julia Koch in the employment dispute did not respond to an email or voicemail from the Daily News.

“My client is an incredibly brave woman to come forward with these discrimination and retaliation claims,” Rosenberg said in a statement to The News.

“Mrs. Koch thinks she can belittle people and treat them like slaves, working them 17 hours a day,” Racine told The News while discussing the allegations in her complaint.

“It was difficult at first for me to step forward. I’m going up against a giant. But I feel like this is about fair treatment of employees. People are so scared to speak out, and nobody ever does anything. Nothing ever comes of it,” she said.
