Ex-Fort Loramie fiscal officer pleads guilty to charge connected to missing money

The former fiscal officer for Fort Loramie has pleaded guilty after failing to deposit nearly $14,000 into the village’s account.

Carolyn Gasson pleaded guilty Monday to a misdemeanor count of unauthorized use of property, according to the Auditor of State’s office. She was indicted in Shelby County Common Pleas Court in August 2022.

Gasson was fired from her position in 2019 after Fort Loramie officials determined she had “manipulated utility account records.”

The Auditor of State’s Special Investigations Unit began its review in October 2019. That included checking records from a 66-month period. During that review, investigators found dozens of instances where utility payments or customer security deposits were collected but not deposited into the village’s bank account.

It was determined that $13,908 was misappropriated while Gasson served as the village’s fiscal officer. Investigators said she was the only person collecting funds at the time.

Gasson has paid full restitution in the case.
