Ex-Huntersville couple fraudulently obtained about $2M in COVID relief: DOJ

HUNTERSVILLE, M.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – Two people who lived in Huntersville have been charged with fraudulently obtaining nearly $2 million in COVID-19 federal relief funds, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of North Carolina announced.

Former Huntersville residents Antoine Johnson, 48, and Kimberly Maddox, 43, were charged with conspiracy to commit bank and wire fraud and making false financial statements.

Court records stated that between 2018 and 2023, the duo obtained about $2 million in protection and disaster loans through a business they run.

They face a max penalty of 30 years in prison. No court dates have been announced yet.

The two suspects currently reside in Georgia.
