Ex-Met Asdrubal Cabrera attacks opposing player celebrating home run in winter league game
Things got a little chippy during Winter League action.
Former Met Asdrubal Cabrera took offense to Carlos Castro’s pimp job after he blasted a home run to take a 4-3 lead in the eighth inning Saturday night.
Cabrera, who now plays for Caribes de Anzoategui in the Venezuelan Winter League, clotheslined Castro after he slow-trotted to first base and flipped his bat in the air.
Castro, playing for Tiburones de La Guaira, heard a few words from Cabrera before the blow was landed. Castro also had a few words with the opposing dugout after hitting the homer. Cabrera’s clothesline knocked a stunned Castro to the ground and a brawl ensued right after.
Tiburones de La Guaira went on to win the game 6-4.
Cabrera played 15 seasons in the major leagues with eight different teams. The one-time All-Star spent three seasons with the Mets, slashing .279/.339/.464. He also hit 55 homers and recorded 179 RBI during his time in Queens.
