Adam Coon won a spot on the U.S. Olympic Greco-Roman wrestling team last month, but unfortunately for him, he won't be competing in Tokyo this summer.

Coon, a three-time NCAA All-American for Michigan, failed to qualify for the 2021 Olympic Games through the World Olympic Qualifier on Saturday in Sofia, Bulgaria, a last-chance qualification tournament for this summer's Olympics in Tokyo.

The 26-year-old reached the quarterfinals of the greco competition at 130 kilograms (285 pounds), but fell to Ukraine’s Mykola Kuchmii, 6-3. Only the finalists qualified their country for the Olympics, which are set to begin July 23.

Adam Coon of Fowlerville has tournaments in Peru and Kazakhstan in the upcoming months before he can begin focusing on an Olympic year.

As such, the United States won't have a representative in the 130-kg greco competition in Tokyo. Team USA qualified five of six men's freestyle weights, all six in women's freestyle and four of the six in Greco-Roman.

Coon was tasked with earning the Olympic bid after winning the U.S. Olympic Team Trials last month in Texas. The Fowlerville native ended up 1-1 overall in Bulgaria. He recorded a 57-second pin over Kyrgyzstan's Murat Ramonov before losing to Kuchmii.

Ultimately, all three of the U.S. wrestlers that competed in Bulgaria failed to qualify for the Olympics. In addition to Coon, Jesse Porter also went 1-1 in the greco competition at 77 kilos (169), and Jordan Oliver went 3-1 in men's freestyle at 65 kilos (143).
