Though Jacob Evans earned more than $5 million during his time as a professional basketball player that included stints with the Golden State Warriors and Minnesota Timberwolves, Summit County prosecutors say he owes more than $300,000 in child support.

Evans, 25, has been indicted on one count of non-support of dependents, a fifth-degree felony.

“Even with his driver’s license and passport suspended, Mr. Evans still has not paid his past-due child support,” Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh said in a press release. “My hope is that – by filing these charges – Mr. Evans pays his court-ordered child support.”

Evans, who attended the University of Cincinnati, was a first-round pick for the Golden State Warriors in the 2018 draft. While with the Warriors, his teammates included Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant.

Golden State traded Evans to the Timberwolves in February 2020, as part of a juggling that involved several players, according to ESPN.

More recently, Evans played for the Santa Cruz Warriors, Golden State’s G-League affiliate, in 2021 and 2022. He is not currently playing professional basketball.

Evans hasn't paid child support since last year, prosecutors say

Prosecutors say Evans fathered a child who was born in Summit County in 2018, with paternity established via genetic testing. The county ordered that Evans pay $6,108 per month in child support in June 2019.

Evans paid just under $60,000 in support but hasn’t made a payment since 2022, prosecutors say.

Walsh said the Child Support Enforcement Agency has tried to contact Evans and his agent for nearly two years.

A fifth-degree felony is punishable by a prison term of six to 12 months and a fine of up to $2,500.

Evans' arraignment in Summit County Common Pleas Court hasn't yet been scheduled.
