Ex-Nissan boss Carlos Ghosn's lawyer Hironaka resigns

Japanese lawyers representing Carlos Ghosn have quit.

Lead lawyer Junichiro Hironaka said on Thursday that everyone involved in the case at his practice had resigned.

The attorney previously expressed disappointment at his client's decision to abscond, and said he would quit once Ghosn had settled his account.

A second lawyer in Ghosn's three-person legal team, also quit on Thursday, according to an official at his office.

Former Nissan chief Ghosn fled from Tokyo last month, where he had been fighting financial misconduct charges.

He told Reuters on Wednesday that he was treated with "brutality" during his detention and bail in Japan.

Japan has issued international wanted notices for Ghosn and his wife, meaning the two will live in Lebanon as fugitives.

Also on Thursday, Renault Chairman Jean-Dominique Senard said there was a "real desire" at the helm of the carmaker's alliance with Nissan to make it a success

He's seeking to dispel suggestions the partnership might be on the rocks.

The Franco-Japanese alliance was thrown into turmoil by Ghosn's 2018 arrest

Attempts to restore calm have recently been thwarted by allegations from Ghosn, that he was the victim of a plot to oust him and that the alliance is now a "masquerade".
