Ex-officer and deputy arrested in 2020 sexual assault investigation

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) – The Columbus Police Department said a former deputy and police officer was arrested after new evidence was discovered regarding a 2020 sexual assault investigation.

According to CPD, back in August 2020, Columbus Police initiated an investigation into reports of sexual assault against a juvenile. After making a recent recovery of additional evidence, CPD says warrants were obtained on Feb. 21 for Corey Brand.

Law enforcement arrested Brand on outstanding warrants and charged him with:

  • Rape

  • Child molestation

  • Aggravated sexual battery

  • Computer or electric pornography and child exploitation prevention

  • Violation of oath of office

At the time of his arrest, CPD said Brand had charges with the Phenix City Police Department and was just released from the Russell County Jail. As of now, Brand is being held in the Muscogee County Jail on the charges listed above. He is scheduled to appear in Recorder’s Court on Feb. 29 at 8 a.m.
