Ex-Ravens coach Brian Billick joins Arizona State staff as an analyst

Former Baltimore Ravens head coach Brian Billick is back in football.
Arizona State said Monday that Billick had been hired as an analyst. Billick is the third former NFL head coach on ASU's staff, joining head coach Herm Edwards and special assistant to the head coach Marvin Lewis.
"I have known Brian since the 1980s and he is a person whom I completely trust," Edwards said in a statement. "He has built one of the finest reputations the NFL has ever known, serving as a head coach, an assistant coach and as a respected television analyst. Brian has one of the brightest offensive minds in football today and that is especially why I hired him. He will serve as a valuable resource to our entire coaching staff, but specifically to our offensive staff."
Billick hasn’t coached in an official capacity since he was fired by the Ravens at the end of the 2007 season. Baltimore was 80-64 in his tenure and had four seasons with 10 wins or more. The Ravens won the Super Bowl after the 2000 season with a 12-4 record and a championship win over the New York Giants.
"I have known Coach Edwards for over 40 years and both [athletic director] Ray Anderson and Marvin Lewis for almost that long," Billick said. "I was working the Hula Bowl two weeks ago with Mike Smith, and ASU reached out to me at that time. I really enjoyed tapping into the players there and helping them to highlight their abilities. They proposed this opportunity to me, to have another set of eyes looking at and evaluating Sun Devil football and I thought it was the right time for me to make this move. I love what they are doing at ASU. It's all about structure in the NFL and hopefully that's what I can bring to the table at ASU."
Baltimore never got back to the AFC title game under Billick after that Super Bowl appearance. Its best regular season with Billick came in 2006 when the Ravens went 13-3 before losing to the Indianapolis Colts in the divisional round.
Billick spent much of his first years out of the NFL doing television work for NFL Network and Fox. He last coached in college in 1991 when he was the assistant head coach and tight ends coach for Stanford. He joined the Cardinal for three seasons after stops at BYU, San Diego State and Utah State. He then was an offensive assistant for the Minnesota Vikings from 1992-98 before he was hired by Baltimore.
Arizona State finished the 2021 season 8-5 after losing to Wisconsin in the Las Vegas Bowl. The Sun Devils are currently the subject of an NCAA investigation into alleged recruiting violations for hosting recruits on campus during recruiting dead periods.
