The United Kingdom's National Crime Agency arrested the former “governor” of occupied Sevastopol, Dmitry Ovsyannikov, for evading sanctions on Jan. 31, The Times reported.

The arrest took place at his residence in London last week. He is due to appear in court on Feb. 20.

The Kremlin puppet is accused of circumventing sanctions and opening an account in a London bank, as well as making four payments totaling £65,000 and holding £77,500 of criminal cash.

The Times reported that Ovsyannikov is under sanctions in the UK. However, the EU court granted Ovsyannikov’s appeal to remove him from their sanctions list in 2022, citing that he no longer held the position for which he was originally sanctioned. Ovsyannikov was removed from the European Union sanctions list on Feb. 7, 2023.
