Former UFC fighter Phil Baroni has been accused of murdering his girlfriend in Mexico.

Baroni, 46, was arrested in San Pancho, in the state of Nayarit, on Sunday after he called local police and reported his girlfriend Paolo was unconscious in their room at the Jardín San Pancho Hotel on Sunday, according to Tribuna de la Bahia.

Police found Paola naked in a bed covered by a blanket. She had bruises on her face and body and displayed no vital signs.

Baroni told police he and Paola were drinking beer and smoking marijuana when they argued about her having an affair. He allegedly grabbed her and threw her into the shower where she hit her head multiple times after falling.

He said he helped her back to the bed and covered her with the blanket because she said she was cold. After leaving to get her a beer and cigarettes, he found her unresponsive and attempted to wake her up.

The MMA fighter was arrested and is being held in jail at the Municipal Administrative Court of Valle de Banderas. Cause of death is pending an autopsy with murder charges potentially following.

Baroni fought in many different MMA promotions during a nearly two-decade career as a middleweight, including UFC, Pride FC, Strikeforce, ICON, EliteXC, ONE, DREAM and Bellator.
