Ex-Vanderbilt, NFL player Zac Stacy arrested after violent video surfaces, records show

Update: Zackary Stacy pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery and criminal mischief in February. A felony battery charge was dismissed by prosecutors. Stacy was sentenced to serve six months per count in the Orange County Jail, according to court records, and will be placed on supervised probation for a year upon release.

Former Vanderbilt football and NFL player Zackary Latrell Stacy, 30, has been arrested in Florida, records show.

The arrest comes after a surveillance video showed Stacy beating his former girlfriend in front of their 5-month-old son, according to a redacted arrest affidavit obtained by The Tennessean. An arrest warrant for Stacy was issued Wednesday, records show.

Stacy faces charges of aggravated battery (great bodily harm) and criminal mischief (under $1,000) and was booked into jail Thursday, according to Orange County Corrections Department records.

The Oakland Police Department in Florida said it got a tip that Stacy was boarding a flight from Nashville to Orlando with the intention of turning himself in, per a news release Friday morning.

Stacy was taken into custody without incident after his flight arrived at Orlando International Airport, OPD said. He made an initial appearance before a judge Friday, per court records. His bond is currently set at $10,150.

On Friday night, the Oakland Police Department in Florida released two incident reports of police responding to the home of Stacy's former girlfriend for domestic-related disturbances involving the former football player.

The incidents occurred in August and September. The first one involved an argument, but "no signs of physical violence were visible," according to the police report. In the second, Stacy's former girlfriend alleged he struck her in the face with stack of mail. ​​​​​​

Warrant details alleged beating, broken furniture

According to the affidavit, Oakland police responded to the victim's home on the afternoon of Nov. 13, where officers found that she "appeared to be emotionally distraught with tears in her eyes."

The affidavit stated that the victim's shirt was torn, she had food in her hair, a large flat-screen television was knocked over and broken, food was scattered on the floor and a baby's bouncy chair was knocked over and broken.

Two children, including Stacy's infant son, were present during the altercation, police said. The incident left the woman with a multiple injuries to her face, torso and legs, including bruises and scrapes, the affidavit said.

TMZ published a video earlier this week showing the incident. According to the affidavit, the video was from the woman's home surveillance system.

Oakland police detective Shawn Dozier wrote in the affidavit that he viewed the surveillance footage, which showed the altercation.

Dozier wrote that the video showed Stacy "strike the victim twice to the back of her head with the first strike with an unknown object in his hand." The second blow was with a closed fist to the back of the head that knocked the victim down, the affidavit said.

A Florida judge issued a "no contact" order on Friday barring Stacy from threatening or contacting the woman in any way, including being within 500 feet of her home, vehicle or workplace.

'Disturbing': Vanderbilt coach responds to report

Vanderbilt football Coach Clark Lea responded to news of the video on Thursday.

"We're aware of the disturbing videos," Lea said. "Obviously, we absolutely condemn acts of domestic violence. The behavior has no place in our society and that's really all I want to say about it. It's disturbing."

Stacy was a running back with the Vanderbilt Commodores from 2009-12. He also played three seasons in the NFL from 2013-15 and played with the Memphis Express of the Alliance of American Football in spring 2019.

He was also set to be the ambassador at the upcoming TransPerfect Music City Bowl, which cut ties with him after the video surfaced.

Attempts by The Tennessean to contact Stacy were unsuccessful on Thursday.
