Excavator destroyed after fire sparks in Carroll County

CARROLL COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — The Hillsville Fire Department reports an excavator was lost after catching fire on Tuesday, April 16.

Fire officials say crews were dispatched to Sandy Level Road at 1:23 p.m. after a report that an excavator was on fire. On the scene, the excavator was found with smoke and heavy flames.

Crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire; however, the machine was deemed a total loss.

One airlifted to hospital after SUV crashed into embankment in Carroll County

After the fire was out, overhaul was completed using foam and the fire department reports also containing a fuel leak.

No injuries have currently been reported.
