An exclusive first look inside Menards

Mar. 29—Menards has been a long time coming to Richmond. Now, its much-anticipated arrival is less than a week away.

General Manager Bill Hamilton granted the Richmond Register an exclusive first look inside the store to give people an idea of what to expect before the grand opening.

He reported that Menards, which will be located at 512 Caperton Drive, will open on Tuesday, April 2 with special events happening throughout the month.

Special events include:

Grand Opening Celebration — Sunday, April 7 through Saturday, April 13

Legendary Chainsaw Carver John Gage creating woodcarvings — Sunday, April 7 through Wednesday, April 10 (9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. daily)

Menards Race Cars on Display (#12 Ryan Blaney/#88 Matt Crafton) — Thursday, April 11 through Saturday, April 13

According to Hamilton, the new store will be a one-stop shop full of groceries and materials that will meet the home improvement needs of locals.

He explained that each store typically has over 70,000 stock-keeping units (SKUs), or products, ranging from home decor to groceries to appliances.

For example, the grocery shelves are lined with both familiar brands and items that people have likely never tried before while the garden section features fountains, plants, and tools.

The store also features a full-service lumberyard where trucks can drive up to receive their construction items, keeping customers from needlessly coming through the store or dragging large products to their trucks.

Employees fully stocked the store in three weeks and are putting the finishing touches on displays and completing store training before the grand opening.

"There weren't any products in here three weeks ago," he said. "We've been working hard to get everything ready."

However, he also noted that he's been aware of all the buzz surrounding the store, which he noted is locally staffed with familiar faces and almost ready to go.

"This new store is huge, very bright and welcoming," says Bill Hamilton, Richmond Menards General Manager. "As a team, we are really excited to open the doors to show everyone in this great community what we've been working on, plus all that Menards has to offer."

Jeff Abbott, a Menards representative, said, "We really appreciate all the support we've received throughout the building process. And, we look forward to being a fixture in the Richmond community."

A family-owned and run Midwestern company started in 1958, Menards currently operates 339 stores including six in Kentucky.

Store Hours will be Monday-Saturday (6:00 a.m. — 10:00 p.m.); Sunday (8:00 a.m. — 8:00 p.m.)
