Hollyoaks star Owen Warner has told Digital Spy that there will be bigger storylines coming up for Romeo Quinn over the next few months.

Romeo played a central role in one of the show's most heartbreaking stories last year, as his on-off love interest Lily McQueen tragically passed away.

James's son had quieter times in the village in the second half of last year, but has now returned to the forefront of the drama thanks to his affair with Celeste Faroe.

Asked whether Romeo has even busier times ahead, Owen told Digital Spy: "Yes, hopefully! There are going to be some big things coming up. There might be some new characters coming in who Romeo might associate with, some new dilemmas and all sorts going on.

"It was really fun when I first started and I was really busy. I've been a bit quiet for a little while, but now it's picking up again and it's looking like a really exciting year for Romeo."

Owen also predicted that Romeo will play a role in Hollyoaks' big issue-based storyline of 2020, focusing on County Lines drug dealing.

Viewers already know that Romeo's sister Juliet (Niamh Blackshaw) will be drawn into the dark world of drug dealing, thanks to the troublesome influence of village newcomer Jordan Price (Connor Calland).

Owen told us: "As Romeo's sister is so heavily involved, he's bound to be dragged into it in some way too. He'll be roped in somehow. He might just try to stop Juliet from getting involved and going down that dark path. If Sid and Jordan carry on overstepping the line, Romeo won't hesitate to get involved.

"Romeo has had experience with men like that back in the day, as his mum was a drug addict. He had to get men away from his mum, so he's not scared of little kids who think they're big.

"I don't think Romeo will get involved in the drug dealing himself. Because of the way his mum was, he's seen the bad side of drugs and it's just not in his mind at all to get involved with that world.

"He couldn't be swayed at all and he'd go well out of his way to protect Juliet and stop her from getting involved in anything like that."

Hollyoaks airs weeknights at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look screenings at 7pm on E4.
