James Corden has explained why he found it "very freeing" working on Peter Rabbit 2, which has finally hopped into UK cinemas.

Speaking to Digital Spy, Corden said that while it wasn't "easier" doing voice work compared to live-action, it did allow for a wider scope of improvisation than he would normally get in other acting roles.

"You've got countless times to do it and try it. The hardest thing when you're filming anything, even us doing this now, is time. Time is the greatest pressure," he noted.

"I think I've recorded Peter Rabbit 2 from start to finish, the whole movie, maybe eight to ten times and in moments of that, doing ten reads of individual lines. Then it's up to Will [Gluck] to pick how he wants the character to sound and feel.

"It feels very freeing and also you don't have to worry about that curry you ate at the weekend where you might have put on four pounds and it's showing on your face, it doesn't matter. You can turn up in your pyjamas and it's fine."

Corden reprises his role as the iconic character in the long-awaited sequel which, like so many other movies in the past year, had its original release delayed by the ongoing global situation.

With cinemas finally reopening in the UK, Peter Rabbit 2 marks one of the first new releases out, and he feels it's the perfect movie to go and see with the whole family as it "excludes nobody".

"So often when you're thinking about what to watch, you might want to watch something and it's not appropriate for your kids or your wife wants to watch something and you don't really want to, or your grandparents want to watch something else and no one can agree," Corden explained.

"I would argue that this film is the perfect film for an outing for all the family. I have young kids and I think the best moments when you're watching a film with your children and they're enjoying a moment for one reason and you're enjoying the same moment, but for a completely different reason.

"This film is full of all that fun and full of all that heart. We're thrilled that people are going to be able to go out and experience being out in the cinema with Peter Rabbit 2."

Of course, Peter Rabbit isn't the only beloved children's book character to make it to the screen in recent years, with the first movie being met with comparisons to the celebrated Paddington movies.

Corden doesn't think there's a battle between the two characters though as if they met up in real life, they wouldn't even fight. "I don't think Paddington would ever have a fight, but I think Peter thinks he might be useful in a fight and wouldn't be," he joked.

"I think actually the two of them would never fight each other. Peter would square up and think he's all tough and Paddington would give him one of his incredible glares, and I think that would make Peter back down."

Peter Rabbit 2 is out now in UK cinemas.
