Exclusive: Jumanji The Next Level director explains body swapping twist

From Digital Spy

Jumanji: The Next Level director Jake Kasdan recently sat down with Digital Spy to discuss the sequel's body swapping twist.

In the film, Dwayne Johnson imitates Danny DeVito's Eddie Gilpin in avatar mode whilst Kevin Hart plays Danny Glover's Milo Walker – which helps to avoid repeating its predecessor entirely.

Explaining why the team mixed it up this time around, Kasdan shared his enthusiasm for expanding the Jumanji world.

"You know, it came about initially from this idea of what would it be like if we brought in... We knew we wanted to sort of expand the world of it in every way," the director noted.

"For me, the idea that really got me excited about making a sequel was this thought of bringing in these two guys that are at a completely different point in their lives. And putting them on an adventure, like a Jumanji adventure.

"And suddenly that started to get really exciting, the thought of bringing in these two characters, and having DJ and Kevin playing that opposite each other. It felt like a big, exciting idea."

Kasdan continued: "Then it was just: who are the most perfect people for this? And Danny and Danny were the instant choices for us."

Let's face it, DeVito and Glover will always be a winning combination.

Jumanji: The Next Level is released in UK cinemas on December 11 and US cinemas on December 13.
