Neighbours star Tim Kano has expressed hope that his character Leo Tanaka can find love again.

The show's new season has opened with Leo single, as he concentrates on running the vineyard and raising his young daughter Abigail.

Last year, Leo was left devastated when Abigail's mum Britney Barnes lost her life in the Erinsborough storm disaster.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy in a new interview, Tim teased future storylines by sharing: "I can't say too much, but I think he's grown a lot through being a single father, especially with the two-year time jump.

"I think he's definitely ready for some romance and some love. He's had a tough run in the past, especially after losing Britney.

"I'm really excited to see where it goes. There are a lot of twists and turns. I can't say too much more, but it's a really interesting, fun but tough journey for Leo coming up."

Asked what he'd like to explore with Leo that the show didn't first time around, Tim replied: "I definitely feel like Leo deserves a long-term love interest.

"I think that would be nice. He's had so many failed love affairs. He's had a broken heart so many times. It would be really nice for him to have that.

"I think he's had a really tough run. I can't wait to see what happens with that, but even a wedding on the horizon would be great. Who knows? I'd love to do that."

Neighbours' new season has opened with Leo's twin brother David not part of the regular cast, although there have been rumours of a potential return for him and Aaron Brennan in the longer-term.

On the possibility of David coming back, Tim said: "I'd love to see that! I think the fans would too. I love working with Takaya [Honda, who played David]. He was there for my first day. We went through this whole journey together, so I'd love for David and Aaron to make a return.

"I can't say much more than that but it's an exciting time ahead."
