Shawn Mendes has had the biggest year of his life so far and he's still breaking records and living his best life as he continues on his self-titled world tour. Of course this doesn't mean that things are super easy on the road. Seventeen got to speak to Shawn in anticipation of his new This is Shawn pop-up with Verizon in New York City and he revealed how he stays grounded on tour.
"It changes over time but I always work out in the morning, and it's really mostly about having a routine," he said about keeping his anxiety and mental health in check. "Whatever that routine is for you that works to help keep you centered. That can be working out, or meditating, or anything good for your mind and body."
On top of his new pop-up opening in NYC, which coincides with tour dates at the Barclays Center, Shawn is also set to perform at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards on Monday night alongside Camila Cabello. The two pop stars will be performing their latest single together, "Señorita," and Shawn hinted that there is a lot fans can expect from the performance.
"There are some pretty big surprises in store. I don't want to give too many details away but it'll be big!"
He is also nominated for Artist of the Year, the biggest award of the night. "It's so incredible. I really can't believe how much has happened this year," he told Seventeen.
The special pop-up experience, This is Shawn, gives fans the chance to see a bit more about the creative process and get some limited edition merch that will only be available there.
"It’s been amazing [creating the pop-up] because it gives me the ability to share more of my process. The project with Verizon is an opportunity for fans to really connect with the songwriting process," he said. "It's definitely the most in-depth thing we've shown. It's exciting though to give fans a real audio visual in person experience behind it all though. Verizon created so many moments throughout the experience that will make fans feel like they are really getting to take a look at the making of the album from a perspective thats never been shown before "
His partnership with Verizon also allows fans to get up close and personal with him while on tour as fans can win special VIP tickets to his concerts.
"I love interacting with my fans and just constantly having conversations with them. I'm so excited to be working with Verizon to create these exclusive experiences for my fans."
