Exclusive: Strictly’s Kevin Clifton shares Stacey Dooley’s reaction to family news

Strictly Come Dancing star Kevin Clifton is set to grace on our screens once more, but instead of performing, the dance star will be looking into his family history.
Fans of Clifton can soon see him uncover a few surprises about his ancestors on BBC’s hit series Who Do You Think You Are?.
Teasing ahead to what viewers can expect, Clifton said his girlfriend Stacey Dooley was stunned by what he discovered during his time on the show.

Speaking exclusively with Digital Spy, the former Strictly pro confessed he didn’t expect to find anything relating to his family outside his hometown of Grimsby.
However, the star hinted his ancestry journey led him much further afield, beyond the shores of the UK.
"My girlfriend Stacey was like, 'This is insane!'," Clifton recalled. "She was like, 'You're the most English person I know. There can't possibly be anything outside of England going on with you'.
"So, to go where it went was just nuts. I can't wait for everyone to see it."

"I feel like the only thing anyone knows about me is, 1) ballroom dancing, and 2) 'He’s from Grimsby'," Clifton laughed. "That's what everyone just assumes with me all the time and it's kind of what I assumed was going to be the bulk of the episode as well.
"I said, 'It's either going to be just generations of ballroom dancers, or it's going to be based in Grimsby and we're going to be talking about the history of the fishing industry in Grimsby or something'.
"That's all I knew of myself really. So, for the episode to go where it ended up going was mind blowing. I couldn't believe it."

The dancer was keen not to spoil the upcoming episode of Who Do You Think You Are? and kept tight-lipped about where exactly his family history journey took him, but hinted a lot of travelling was involved.
"I'm sat in my mum and dad's kitchen looking at some photographs, and then the next morning, I'm on a plane to the other side of the world," he said.
Kevin Clifton’s episode of Who Do You Think You Are? is available to watch on Thursday June 22 at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
