New fast-casual spot featuring turkey legs and daiquiris to debut in north Charlotte

A turkey leg and daiquiri joint will debut in north Charlotte just before Thanksgiving.

Jive Turkey Hut will open next month at 3701 Statesville Ave., said co-owner Clarence Boston, a longtime business owner in Charlotte and Atlanta. The opening date has not yet been set.

The fast-casual restaurant was formerly Bodrick’s Bar-B-Q, which closed in 2015 after over 15 years in business.

“I used to pass that building every day and eat there several times,” said Boston, a mortician who sold Boston’s Mortuary funeral home on Statesville Avenue in 2021.

Jive Turkey Hut is Boston’s latest business venture. He also is co-owner of Another Brewery, expected to open in November at 2509 N. Davidson St., followed by Hippin’ Hops Brewery & Distillery, opening in December at 650 E. Brooklyn Village Ave.

Jive Turkey Hut is co-owner James Pettis and Boston’s take on the popular Turkey Leg Hut in Houston, Texas, founded in 2015, according to the business’ website. The trendsetting restaurant serves 2,000 to 2,800 turkey legs a day, according to Texas Monthly.

In Charlotte, expect smoked turkey legs, “just short of foot,” stuffed with shrimp Alfredo, mac and cheese and collard greens. Prices will range from $14.99 to $30 for lobster or étouffée stuffed, Boston said.

Other turkey dishes include smoked wings and grilled turkey burgers.

The menu has appetizers such as Thanksgiving egg rolls and salmon bites, to entrees such as Cajun shrimp or salmon and grits, salmon burgers and grilled or fried chicken sandwich, according to Jive Turkey Hut’s website.
