EXCLUSIVE: Travis Etienne says injured foot is same that kept him out of rookie season, will be fine

Jaguars running back Travis Etienne injured his foot during the first half of the team's victory over the Ravens. He briefly headed to the locker room but returned to the sideline, still in uniform, and looked on as the Jaguars picked up their fourth win of the season.

After the game, Etienne indicated to the Times-Union the injury sustained Sunday occurred to his left foot. It's the same foot that forced him to miss his entire rookie season due to a Lisfranc injury in 2021.

Still, he said in a later interview with reporters that he will be okay.

"We'll be straight by next weekend," he said in the locker room when asked how the foot was feeling. Etienne became the team's starting RB after the Jaguars traded RB James Robinson to the New York Jets after their Week 7 loss to the New York Giants.

Prior to today, he rushed for 725 yards and four touchdowns on 131 carries while catching 22 passes for 202 yards. Against the Ravens, Etienne carried the ball just twice for three yards before getting hurt.

Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said after the game that the team did not rule him out (Etienne was said to be "questionable" to return), and thought he could go, but they didn't want to risk anything.

"So it was just my decision to keep him out, but we'll check him out tonight and have probably a better update tomorrow."

Etienne wasn't able to be on the field for the latter portion of the contest, but he was able to see it from the sideline. He understands just how much the team needed a win like they had on Sunday, something they can build off of.

"I kinda feel like that fourth quarter gave everybody confidence even moving forward," said Etienne.

"It just shows that we can move the ball, move the ball consistently through the game. We just need to stop going through those periods where we stall out and just consistently move the ball throughout the game. I feel like that last drive showed us that we can do that."
