Kevin Owens is preparing to challenge Logan Paul for the WWE United States Championship at tonight's Royal Rumble (January 27).

The YouTuber-turned-wrestler has previously credited Owens with making him want to join WWE, after he was involved in the WrestleMania 37 match between Owens and Sami Zayn.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy ahead of the Royal Rumble, Owens shared his initial impressions of Paul, revealing that he had banned his son from watching his and brother Jake's YouTube videos.

"Some years ago, my son started watching YouTube and the only thing I told him is, 'I don't want you to watch Logan and Jake Paul, you can watch whatever else.'

"I just didn't care for them much. I didn't want my son to, you know, whatever," Owens explained.

"So then several years later [Logan] ends up at WrestleMania involved in my match which my son thought was pretty ironic and pretty funny.

"Now here we are three years later, I'm about to actually have a match with him, it just shows you never know how life's going to work out, it's pretty funny. "

But despite Owens's initial impression of Paul, he admits that once he started working matches in WWE he was quickly impressed.

"Anybody from the outside that comes into our industry gets scrutinised quite a bit and there's always a bit of, 'let's see what this guy is about,'" Owens said.

"I don't think anybody could deny that [Paul's] gotten very good at this very quickly. He's a lot better than anybody could have imagined and he certainly leaves everything he has in the ring.

"He dedicates himself to his matches, he gives everything he has and that's very important and it's a good way to earn respect from people within our locker room."

However, although Paul has impressed in the ring, Owens says he still has a lot to learn about the wrestling business.

"Obviously there's other parts of this industry that are sometimes kind of lost on him as far as attitude and etiquette and stuff like that, he doesn't really have any knowledge of that," Owens explained.

"So it makes having him around challenging sometimes but that's just the nature of what we do and now I get to get in the ring with him on Saturday and maybe teach him a thing or two."
