Jun. 11—With one swing of the bat, Armstrong wiped out all the momentum Exeter built in the first inning.

Jess Pugh hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the first inning Thursday at Bedford to help Armstrong defeat Exeter 15-4 in five innings in a PIAA Class 5A softball quarterfinal game.

The District 3 No. 4 seed Eagles (13-14) scored two runs in the top of the first inning but had their lead wiped out when Pugh hit the first of her two home runs.

Jenna Clontz also hit a home run for District 7 runner-up Armstrong (17-5), which defeated Twin Valley 10-1 Monday at Lyons.

The game was delayed 49 minutes after a downpour and again for 30 minutes due to thunder.

Armstrong scored seven runs in the fourth inning to break it open.
