New exhibition at Minneapolis Institute of Art showcases Pueblo art

Aug. 29—The Minneapolis Institute of Art has opened "Parska / Shada," an exhibition of the museum's collection of Pueblo art highlighting Keresan, Tewa, Towa and Hopi voices and culture.

Curated by Juan Lucero (Isleta Pueblo), Mia's Mdewakanton Native Art Fellow, the exhibition takes visitors to the oldest villages in the United States for a parska (in Keresan) or shada (in Tewa) ceremonial dance, according to a Mia news release.

The show features more than 40 pieces — including watercolor paintings, bow guards, manta weavings, ceramics and Hopi katsinam dolls — installed alongside a soundscape of Pueblo songs from dance ceremonies. It's on view at Mia through April 3.
