New exhibitions are on display at Juanita Harvey Art Gallery

Three new exhibitions are open in the Juanita Harvey Art Gallery at MSU Texas.

The work of graphic designer Alice Lee is on display in the main gallery, and artworks by senior students Brittany Mitchell and Kerrigan Reyes are in the pit and foyer galleries.

Lee is a graphic designer, researcher, and educator. Her research interests include alphabetic systems, concepts of interconnectedness, and impacts of cultural imperialism.

She collaborates with cultural and educational organizations as a designer, creative director and visual consultant. She received her bachelor’s from Yale University and her master of design from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

She serves as associate professor of communication design and graduate co-advisor of the master's of fine arts program at Texas State University.

As a second-generation Korean-American, she grew up speaking two languages and navigating two different and, at many times, opposing cultures.

This experience influenced her overarching interest in the dynamics of language and culture. Her research focuses on language and alphabetic systems, primarily Korean and English.

Mitchell’s exhibition is titled “Defying Life’s Misfortunes.” Reyes’ exhibition is “The Devout Seductiveness of Death.”

The exhibitions will be on display through Nov. 4. Hours for the Juanita Harvey Art Gallery are 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Admission is free to the gallery in the Fain Fine Arts Center at 3410 Taft Boulevard. Call 940-397-4264 for more information.
