NEWMARKET — On Sunday, Nov. 13, Erin Harpe returns to the stage at The Stone Church, 5 Granite St., Newmarket, with her Country Blues Duo! Featuring the award-winning singer/guitarist along with her husband, Jim Countryman, on bass and backing vocals, the duo celebrates their new album “Meet Me in the Middle” winning the New England Music Award for “Album of the Year”! The album was called “today’s country blues at its very best” by Living Blues Magazine, who crowned Erin “one of the finest fingerpicking acoustic blues singers in the land”.

This special performance, “The Road to Memphis”  is a fundraiser for the International Blues Challenge (IBC). Erin Harpe Country Blues Duo is representing the Granite State Blues Society in the IBCs, January 2023 in Memphis.

New novel released by Rochester author; set in N.H. and focuses on LGBT communities

ROCHESTER — J. L. Long, Rochester author and the host of the monthly Rochester Writers Night literary salon, has just released his sophomore novel, Ladykillers. This cozy-style mystery novel follows the misadventures of middle-aged trans lesbian Ro Peszke, former cop and current private investigator, as she stumbles her way through a missing persons case, a fledgling romance with a woman ten years her junior, and entirely too much New England snow. The official book launch and live reading by the author is scheduled for the November Rochester Writers Night event on Wednesday, Nov. 2. The reading will be held in the Rose Room at the Rochester Public Library, located at 65 S. Main St., in downtown Rochester, and will begin at 6 p.m. An open mic will follow.

The book is available through Lulu Books (www.lulu.com/spotlight/jllong) in both ebook and paperback formats, as well as through Amazon.

Rye Place hosts community art show

RYE — Rye Place will hold a community art show opening on Thursday, Nov. 3 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Rye Place Shopping Center, 150 Layfette Road, Rye. Members of the community are invited to attend. There will be light refreshments and plenty of free parking. The art exhibit will be on display through December.

“We are delighted to display amazing oil paintings from the immensely talented local artist, Susan Hennigan. Susan’s pieces feature the beauty of the beach, boats, landscapes, and other scenic treasures. We’re excited to share her gorgeous artwork with our local community,” said Howie Lazerowich, Co-owner of the Inn at Rye Place.

Susan Hennigan has lived in Hampton, N.H. since 1989. She is a self-taught artist who has benefitted from mentoring by several talented regional oil painters. Susan has shared her art in solo and group exhibitions in the New Hampshire and southern Maine seacoast. Her work also sits in private collections throughout the United States.

In addition, visitors can enjoy beautiful and colorful artwork from students from nearby Rye Elementary School. Their display will include self-portraits, hearts, florals, and collages.

Rye Place is home to 13 small business, 11 of which are women-owned, and range from a hair salon to floral designer. The attached Inn at Rye Place offers a welcoming and comfortable place to stay with a great location just three miles from the Rye beaches, and near Portsmouth and Hampton’s beloved restaurants, bars, beaches, and shops. This quiet and peaceful space is an ideal environment for family vacations or business travel.

KITTERY, Maine — The Kittery Art Association announced their upcoming All Member Exhibition "En Plein Air" opened Oct. 20 and runs through Nov. 27. There will be holding an Opening Reception on Sunday, Oct. 23, from 5 to 7 p.m. Admission to the gallery and opening receptions are always free and open to the public.
