If the post-apocalyptic zombie terrain of "The Walking Dead" spin-off "Dead City" looks familiar, there's a reason for that.

It was filmed in New Jersey.

The new “Dead City,” which debuts on Sunday, June 18, on AMC, was filmed at multiple locations in the Garden State, including Newark, the Meadowlands Arena in East Rutherford, and Central Jersey, according to the New Jersey Motion Picture & Television Commission.

Filming locations in North Jersey included the 51 Port Terminal in Bayonne; Mushroom Tunnels in Cedar Grove; the Franklin Lakes Nature Preserve; Kearny Warehouse in Kearny; the Ivy in Weehawken, the Turtle Back Rock Picnic Area of the South Mountain Reservation in West Orange; Franklin Avenue in Midland Park; the Art Factory and the City Hall area in Paterson; and interior and exterior shots of Hoboken Terminal and Union Dry Dock in Hoboken.

In Newark, scenes were shot in Academy, Commerce, Halsey, James and Washington streets; in Military Park; an abandoned subway station; the National Newark Building; Express Shoe Repair; Newark Symphony Hall; the Dayton Street School; and an apartment on Lake Street.

In Central Jersey and the Jersey Shore, scenes were filmed at Settler Ridge Farm and the Great Swamp National Refuge in Basking Ridge; the Holmdel Motor Inn; Paradigm Hedge in Holmdel; Clean Land in Kenilworth; and locations in Plainfield and Rahway.

The production also rented Temple Emanuel in Franklin Lakes; iPark in Hoboken; NJPAC in Newark; St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and First Park Baptist Church in Plainfield; Boys & Girls Club in Union; the Pilgrim Shopping Plaza in Verona; Wagner Farm Arboretum in Warren; and Essex House in West Orange for use as basecamps and crew parking.

Overall, 100 crew members and 1,100 cast members and extras came through the state for filming of “The Walking Dead: Dead City,” and $72 million was spent in the state for labor, goods and services, according to the film commission.

“The Walking Dead: Dead City' required an extraordinary array of challenging locations, but New Jersey provided the show’s creative team with just what they needed. This is proof, once again, that New Jersey is film ready,” said NJ Secretary of State Tahesha Way in a statement.

“Dead City” is the fourth spinoff of “The Walking Dead” franchise. It follows Maggie (Laurne Cohen) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) as they “explore a post-apocalyptic New York City cut off from the mainland,” according to the film commission.

Gaius Charles, Jonathan Higginbotham, Mahina Napoleon, Trey Santiago Hudson and Charlie Solis are the co-stars. The first of the six-episode run begins at 9 p.m. Sunday, June 18, on AMC and AMC+.
