Expanded Level 1 Be Ready alert issued for Lookout Fire near McKenzie Bridge

Fire officials have expanded the area under a Level 1 Be Ready evacuation notice for the Lookout Fire burning north of McKenzie Bridge.

The area now includes:

  • Areas south of Highway 126 from Blue River Reservoir Road east to Foley Ridge Road.

  • McKenzie River Drive.

  • The area west of Highway 126 from D. Scott Road to the Linn County line.

  • Beginning on Highway 126 just north of Ice Cap campground west to include all of Smith Reservoir, including Lakes End Campground, and then extending south between Lakes end Campground and Highway 126, to the McKenzie Bridge/Frissell Boat Launch.

The Level 3 Go Now evacuation notice issued Sunday remains in effect for:

  • Taylor Road.

  • North Bank Road.

  • All areas north of Highway 126 between Blue River Reservoir Road and Drury Lane.

  • Mona Campground.

  • Lookout Campground.

  • HJ Andrews Experimental Forest headquarters.

The Lookout Fire started after a lightning strike on Aug. 7. It has now burned 4,271 acres and is 0% contained.

A Red Cross shelter is available for people and small pets at Lowell High School, 65 Pioneer St. The shelter is available for evacuees from the Bedrock and Lookout fires.

For large animals or livestock, shelter is available at the Lane Events Center at 796 W. 13th Ave. in Eugene. Owners need to call or text Lane County Animal Services at 541-285-8227 before getting to the center and need to leave a message including the number and type of animals.
