Find out who to expect at Albuquerque Comic Con

Jan. 11—It's January — which means it's time for Albuquerque Comic Con.

The event is back for the 13th year on Friday, Jan. 13, through Sunday, Jan. 15, at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

According to organizers the event kicks off from 3-5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, with a sensitivity opening.

"This allows children with autism to get in and experience the convention in their own way," says Jim Burleson, Albuquerque Comic Con founder. "The ages are from zero to 80 and it's on the honor system so please don't abuse our good will. Each minor kid can be accompanied by a guardian. There will be plenty to see and do. Special programming will be developed for the community."

At 4 p.m. the event will open to the general public.

According to Burleson, some of the guests for this year's comic con are Ashley Greene from the "Twilight" series, John C. McGinley from "Scrubs," Larry Wilcox and Erik Estrada from "CHiPS," Mick Foley from the World Wrestling Entertainment and actors Edward James Olmos and Julie Brown.

Beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, there will be a "Super Smash Bros." tournament. The top 8 will advance to the finals which takes place at 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15. There is a pool prize of $2,500. Registration takes place at albuquerquecomiccon.com.

"(This is) a unique event that is fun for the whole family, featuring celebrity guests, authors, vendors, local artists, cosplay contests, karaoke, dances and more," Burleson says.

There will be after hours events at the Doubletree Hotel. Visit albuquerquecomiccon.com for a complete list of events and guests.
